New Seagram’s Branding is Gorgeous

Really impressed with the new Seagram’s branding. Slick and sophisticated. I’d never have thought to pick up Seagram’s mixers before, but now I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a few packs. The cans are just gorgeous. Amazing what a difference design can make in what I choose to purchase.

– Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Fuxwitit Remix) (5,901 plays)

Scoured the net this weekend for a good remix of Lana Del Rey’s Blue Jeans. Tons of them exist, but most of them fail to actually speed up the track. This was the best I could find—good tempo increase and heavier bass. I could do without the dubstep, but alas… beggars can’t be choosers.

“Warrior” by Mark Foster, Kimbra, and A-Trak. So good. I’d love it if Foster The People’s new album sounded like this.

Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded

Nicki’s versatility is kind of astonishing. I think it’s safe to say that she’s the only woman in the music industry that could pull off such a diverse range of sounds. You start off with Roman Holiday, a completely over-the-top track that features Nicki’s signature frenzied vocals. It’s like some deranged Broadway number. Then she spits like only she can on a series of obscene hip-hop tracks, my favorite being Beez In The Trap, the beat of which has accurately been described as a submarine radar bouncing off underwater volcanoes. It’s truly a thing of beauty.

About halfway through, she switches into electro-dancepop mode with the hugely successful Starships. This track, plus Pound The Alarm and Automatic, are top-of-the-line modern pop productions, with the added bonus that Nicki doesn’t have to hire any rappers to feature on the bridges because she’s fully capable of taking care of it herself. Her chopped up dubstep break at the end of Automatic is particularly awesome. From there, she moves into a few mid-tempo pop ballads and pulls them off without a hitch. Young Forever is my personal fave, but Marilyn Monroe is probably the more obvious hit from this group of tracks.

By the last song, it’s obvious that Nicki is the only person that could have recorded this album. It’s loud, excessive, a bit psychotic, and guaranteed to supply a string of hits that will keep her in the spotlight for many months to come.
